What does the Washington State Animal Health Foundation do?

The Washington State Animal Health Foundation is a nonprofit corporation that was established in 1972 by the Washington State Veterinary Medical Association (WSVMA) Executive Board. The Foundation’s mission is to provide financial assistance to individuals and institutions for educational and scientific purposes, for disaster and emergency preparedness and for community projects that benefit both humans and animals.

How do donations help animals?

The Washington State Animal Health Foundation provides an avenue for individuals and veterinary practices to make a donation on behalf of an animal or person in a meaningful way. A donation to the Foundation recognizes the powerful human animal bond and is a lasting memorial to that bond. Monies are raised for the Foundation through private pet owners, veterinary practices and fund raising activities with all monies going directly to the Foundation. The Foundation is a not-for-profit, tax exempt 501(c) (3) corporation. All contributions to the Foundation are tax deductible.

Examples of donations at work include:

Clinical research proposals by local Practioners and teachers at universities for companion animals, equine, food animals and exotics
Disaster relief and emergency preparedness
Community projects to benefit the human animal bond such as bullet-proof jackets and protective masks for police dogs, spay/neuter projects, food banks for pets, medical care for low income pet owners
Community projects by veterinary students such as the Josh & Friends Project
Specific projects by member veterinarians recognized/supported/endorsed by the WSVMA
